Many are putting this down to the economic downturn, and an increasing number of holidaymakers choosing to stay in the UK rather than head abroad for their annual vacation. Some believe that people are bored of the southern seaside resorts and are heading up to Whitby cottages for a change of scenery and some of the best scenery in the country.
